PERSONAL·2024
Physarum Study
Physarum Study is an ongoing personal experiment: millions of simple agents depositing and following trails until a transport network emerges. The goal is control — finding the parameters where the system stays alive but can still be art-directed toward a composition.
BREAKDOWN
Solver
An OpenCL agent simulation — sense, rotate, move, deposit — running against a trail map that diffuses and decays each step. VEX wrappers expose the parameters as SOP attributes for quick iteration.
Rendering
The trail map is meshed and rendered as thin filaments, with density driving emission so the busiest routes glow.
SIMULATION NOTES
- 4M agents on a 2048² trail map, ~60 steps/frame.
- Sensor angle and deposit rate are the two knobs that matter most.
